Solutions to End Homelessness of Older People in NSW

Home at Last: Solutions to End Homelessness of Older People in NSW

The foundation for equality is safe, affordable and long-term housing. Older people are increasingly at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Having to navigate homelessness when we’re older is especially challenging. This is the time to act because over 110,000 women over the age of 45 are at risk of homelessness in NSW. There are solutions we can implement today and the NSW government can

(i) Establish a specialist housing service for older people

(ii) lower the age for priority housing (you have to be 80 years old to qualify for a place on the priority waiting list now) and

(iii) Increase the stock of social, accessible & affordable housing.
